Yesterday, I was thinking about how I wanted to wrap up my blog for 2018 (besides the new layout– check it out and let me know what you guys think!). I considered writing about making resolutions or how I felt about the last year but instead began thinking about traditions.
Traditions are different in every family. Personally, mine has never really celebrated New Year’s. We’ve done some small things like eat dinner as a family and watch the ball drop on TV, but it’s never been a huge deal.
The one thing that really stays the same each year is my mom usually makes black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day for good luck and prosperity in the new year. This has never been something I really understood, and I definitely don’t enjoy the peas, but I still always eat them.
I googled it and apparently, it’s a southern thing. Along with eating collard greens as a symbol for money… that we don’t do. Thankfully.
This year, we’re taking our family dinner to Oxford Grillehouse and I’m going to the Square with some friends after. Celebrating with friends is something I’ve only done since last year because I usually just stay in with my family.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great last day of 2018 and ring in the New Year doing something that makes you happy with the people who do! Here’s to hoping 2019 is the best year yet!
Does your family have any New Year’s traditions? Do y’all eat black-eyed peas, too? Let me know in the comments below!
No New Year’s traditions for me. What my boyfriend & I do on NYE depends on if he’s playing anywhere that night. Last night his band had a gig, so I was at that. Last year he didn’t have a gig, so we went out for dinner, got ice cream afterwards & then came back to my place to watch the ball drop.

I like being able to kind of do whatever we feel like doing during the holidays with no set plans. Getting ice cream and watching the ball drop sounds like a great way to spend it!
